Images of South India

India is of course many countries; its size and complexity mean that it continuously revels itself to the intrepid traveler. On this trip, Lewie Gonsalves takes you to a more “Indian” India that lies in the south of the country. Here is an Indian relatively untouched by the waves of northern conquerors, and where the essential Dravidian culture that define India has remained almost untouched. You will see some of India’s finest architectural in temple, sculptures and caves, walk on India’s most beautiful beaches, cruise scenic Backwaters and enjoy performance of classical Indian dance and music.

A special highlight will be our rail journey aboard the Golden Chariot, a Luxurious voyage of discovery through the Cradle of stone Architectural. Travelling off the beaten path, we’ll visit the world Heritage site of Badami with its exquisite sculptures of 18-armed Nataraja striking 81 dance poses. We’ll also visit Hampi. Now in ruins, this 14th century capital city once boasted riches known far beyond the shores of India. At Belur we’ll see the magnificent façade of a temple filled with intricate sculptures, with no portion left blank. The great temple art of the south is on show here in the magnificent pagoda at Mamallapuram and the Hall of the Thousand Temple at Madurai. We’ll be soothed by the lush greens of the backwaters of Kerala and the brilliant white beaches of Goa. There is drama here too – you will see it in the wildlife at Periyar National Park and in the Bollywood capital of Mumbai. This is a beautifully paced sightseeing with moments of luxurious relaxation.
