Classical North India

A land of amazing variety, India is the birthplace of Hinduism and Buddhism. Its spiritual doctrines are manifest throughout Asia, while its philosophical, architectural, and artistic achievements have influenced thinkers throughout the ages.

In Varanasi our finger will be firmly on India's spiritual pulse as we survey its most important cultural centers and UNESCO World Heritage sites. Contrast its frenetic urban scenes and timeless, somnolent village life. While we travel to the romantic cities of Rajasthan, we will observe the rapidly emerging middle class, the changing roles of women, and the persistence of caste distinctions in the world's largest democracy.

In Delhi and Agra we will gain an insight into India's history, from the Mughal empires through colonialism and partition. Become familiar with Gandhi's principle of satyagraha, a peaceful force. Enjoy Indian cuisine, renowned throughout the world, and Heritage accommodations, (Old palaces converted to beautiful hotels)
